National Contact Point (NCP) for Horizon Europe Cluster 5 - Energy, NCP Nuclear Fission and Fusion Energy and NCP for Climate-neutral and Smart Cities Mission
Enterprise Ireland
While we begin the process of developing the 2025 Work Programme, there is still a sizable budget available under the current Work Programme 2023-2024. The final deadlines extend to January 2025.
For Destination 3 Sustainable, Secure and Competitive energy supply, there are 12 topics under HORIZON-CL5-2024-D3-02 with €138m and a deadline of 21 Jan 2025.
The topics cover solar, renewable fuels, ocean, wind and CCUS and are a mix of research (RIAs) and demos (IAs) and two CSAs.
For Destination 4 Efficient, sustainable and inclusive energy use, the 18 Apr 2024 deadline has €36m for three IA topics under HORIZON-CL5-2024-D4-01 looking at buildings covering alternative heating, smart grid ready and prefabricated solutions. HORIZON-CL5-2024-D4-02 with five topics by the Built4People Partnership has €50m and a 21 Jan 2025 deadline.
Currently open is the Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking call with a deadline of 17 April 2024 for 20 topics and €113.5m Clean hydrogen Call for proposals 2024 – Open
This call covers the full value chain of hydrogen with:
5 topics – 25M€ funding - Renewable Hydrogen Production
5 topics – 27M€ funding - Hydrogen Storage and Distribution
4 topics – 19M€ funding - Transport
2 topics – 9M€ funding - Heat and Power
2 topics – 4.5M€ funding - Cross-cutting
2 topics – 29M€ funding - Hydrogen Valleys
Ireland's first Hydrogen valley SH2AMROCK is now signed off and will deploy green hydrogen across key hard-to-abate sectors across the island of Ireland – including key infrastructure to enable the production, distribution, and use of green hydrogen. The five-year project, with a total investment of approximately €80m, led by University of Galway, will include a multi-modal H2 transport hub in Galway. Congratulations to all involved.
The commission had a review of the five Missions (Ocean, Climate Adaptation, Cities, Cancer and Soil) and has decided to continue with the initiative so we will see 30 or so topics in the Missions Work Programme for 2024 launched around April.
The Climate Neutral City Mission will have five topics:
1. Rethinking urban spaces towards climate neutrality
2. Zero-pollution cities
3. Mobility Management Plans and Behavioural Change
4. Integrated peri-urban areas in the transition towards climate neutrality
5. Supporting national, regional and local authorities across Europe to prepare for the transition towards climate neutrality within cities
The LIFE CET call will open in April with an expected September 2024 deadline. These Clean Energy Transition topics are CSAs looking at market uptake and look for projects supporting policy framework development, capacity building in public authorities, enabling provisions of EU legislation, technology roll-out, BUILD UP Skills, One-Stop-Shops, Energy Communities etc.
Ireland has been successful in this area previously when it was covered by the Intelligent Energy Europe programme and Horizon2020.
Under LIFE CET we have 49 Irish participants in 22 projects with some very interesting community engagement projects. An example of a community project, led by ATU, is LIFE21-CET-HOMERENO-LEAP in the North West of Ireland where 3 local energy agencies will build momentum in home retrofitting, working with both the homeowners and supply chain to create a continuous pipeline of neighbourhood-based projects. All homeowners should have the opportunity to invest in making their homes warmer, cheaper to heat and more valuable.
There are a lot of events throughout the year - some upcoming ones worth looking at are:
Wed 20 - Thu 21 Mar - SEAI Energy Show in the RDS.
Wed 20 - Thu 21 Mar - European Research and Innovation (R&I) Days, in Brussels.
Mon 15 - Thu 18 Apr - Transport Research Arena (TRA) takes place in Dublin, Ireland.
Don’t hesitate to contact me to discuss any of the above calls - [email protected]
