National Contact Point (NCP) for Cluster 6 - Environment
Environmental Protection Agency
Well done to all those applicants in Ireland involved in one of the 1,269 proposals to the 2024 Cluster 6 calls!
Submitted proposals are competing for a total of €890 million in EU funding and successful projects are to be informed in June. With a success rate to date of 31% for Irish applicants under Horizon Europe Cluster 6 calls, we look forward to further Irish success in June.
Preparation is underway for the 2025 Work Programme and will be based on the recently published Horizon Europe Strategic Plan 2025-2027.
R&I in Cluster 6 remains a key enabler for the Green Transition and, from an environmental research perspective, the Strategic Plan highlights the need to provide forward-looking options on transformative change for biodiversity; to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable, climate-neutral, clean and competitive economy; to support research addressing the water-climate-biodiversity-pollution-people nexus; and to focus on societal transformation, where social sciences and humanities will play a crucial role in finding appropriate solutions and developing pathways.
Cluster 6 is also expected to substantially contribute to achieving the target of dedicating 10% of the Horizon Europe budget to biodiversity and ecosystems objectives, including by mainstreaming nature-based solutions and increasing agrobiodiversity. Expected impacts for Cluster 6 are outlined in the Strategic Plan and will inform future calls .
The main Horizon Europe Cluster 6 funding opportunities may be finished for 2024, but there will be other opportunities later this year. The Partnerships, Biodiversa+ and Water4All will launch Joint Transnational Calls in September in the thematic areas of Supporting societal transformation for the sustainable use and management of biodiversity and Water and Circular Economy.
Details of these calls, including eligible countries, have not yet been finalised, but keep an eye out for announcements later this year.
Information Days for the EU Missions and Cross-Cutting Activities (including New European Bauhaus) are planned for 25-26 April with more information and how to register on the event website.
