The Future of Connected and Automated Mobility

At its meeting in London on 18–19 June 2026, the Connected Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) States Representatives Group (SRG) brought together national representatives from EU Member States and Horizon Europe associated countries to advance discussions on the future deployment of connected, cooperative and automated mobility across Europe. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Department of Transport and Enterprise Ireland as well as the CCAM secretariat, member state and associated country representatives, and the European Commission.
Hosted at the Smart Mobility Living Lab, the discussions addressed, progress in cross-border testing and validation, and enhanced collaboration across Horizon Europe-funded initiatives. With increasing attention turning towards deployment and industrial competitiveness, participants stressed the need to move beyond pilot projects and accelerate market uptake, scaling, and investment under the next EU research and innovation framework programme. A key theme throughout the meeting was the role of FP10 in sustaining Europe’s leadership in connected and automated mobility. Participants emphasised that future European support should focus not only on research and innovation but also on deployment, scaling, commercialisation and strengthening Europe's position in emerging software-defined, connected and automated mobility value chains. The meeting reaffirmed the importance of close coordination between the European Commission, Member States and industry stakeholders to accelerate the safe and effective deployment of CCAM technologies across Europe.
The meeting also discussed, how regulation and innovation simultaneously shape the UK’s approach to connected and automated mobility. A focus was made on the implementation of the UK Automated Vehicles Act 2024, alongside a real-world demonstration of the fully AI-driven Wayve autonomous vehicle.
The next CCAM SRG meeting will be held in Ireland in November under the Irish presidency.

SESAR Innovation Days 2026
University College Cork (UCC) will host the SESAR Innovation Days (SIDs) 2026, one of Europe's leading aviation research and innovation events, in December of this year. Since 2011, the SIDs have brought together researchers, industry leaders, policy makers and innovators to showcase the latest advances shaping the future of air traffic management (ATM).

Call for Papers
Researchers from universities, research organisations, airlines, Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) and industry are invited to submit papers presenting innovative research in aviation and ATM.
Submissions will be assessed on:
- Innovation and originality
- Methodology and scientific approach
- Relevance to ATM research and innovation
All papers undergo a triple-blind peer review process, and accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings and indexed in Elsevier's Scopus database.
